World-leading hospitality group strengthens partnership with SailGP, offering clean energy transition solutions
Accor, a world leading hospitality group with more than 5,400 properties and 10,000 food and beverage venues throughout 110 countries, has today expanded its partnership with SailGP, the world’s most exciting racing on water, demonstrating innovative solutions towards clean energy solutions.
Building on its global partnership with Quentin Delapierre’s France SailGP Team, Accor now becomes the Official Supplier of SailGP for Season 4 and will support SailGP’s clean energy transition.
For more than 25 years, Accor has been at the forefront of efforts to address the environmental and human challenges related to the development of travel and tourism. Accor was the first hospitality group to set an ambitious science-based emissions reduction target of 46 percent compared to its 2019 base year, and committed to contribute to global Net Zero emissions by 2050.Accor’s sustainable ambitions align with SailGP. The global racing league has committed to reducing its direct operational carbon footprint by 55 percent by 2025 from its 2019 base year, as well as becoming 100 percent powered by clean energy both on-shore and on-water by 2025.
Thanks to Accor’s extended support, EODev – an organization that develops and industrializes sustainable, reliable and affordable hydrogen-based energy solutions – will strengthen SailGP’s clean energy roadmap. EODev will supply green hydrogen at key SailGP events during Season 4, beginning with the France Sail Grand Prix in Saint-Tropez, September 9-10, while educating fans on the importance of transitioning to clean energy solutions. The supply of clean hydrogen will allow SailGP to achieve further emissions savings from its already established fuel efficient solutions, whilst pushing the wider market to understand the desire and requirement for hydrogen opportunities.
Accor Global SVP Experiences, Events & Partnerships, Stuart Wareman said: “We are very excited to further support SailGP and its commitment to be powered by nature. This extended partnership also enables us to reinforce our commitment to researching alternative clean energy sources and finding practical applications for them.”
SailGP Managing Director Andrew Thompson said: “SailGP’s ambition is to be the world’s most purpose-driven and sustainable global sport and entertainment platform, and it’s only by aligning with purpose-driven partners who share our vision for a better future that we’ll be able to realize this goal. That’s why we’re incredibly excited to expand our partnership with Accor on a global scale that will help drive us towards our ambitious clean energy targets.”
The France Sail Grand Prix in Saint-Tropez on September 9-10 will be 100 per cent powered by clean energy, with a mix of green hydrogen generators supplied by EODev as well as hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) and mains power.
